AIRPORT

At San José Airport, don’t get into just any taxi. Before exiting the terminal, hire one from the Taxis Unidos Company. These are the orange taxis; unlike the unlicensed cabs, they’re safe, reliable, and will charge you the right price.

Departure or Exit Tax

Via Air: If the departure tax was not included in airline tickets it must be paid in cash (U.S. dollars or Costa Rican Colones) or by credit card (extra fees apply) before checking in at the airline counter for your flight. The tax is $29 per person.

Via Land: $7 exit tax can be paid in advance at one particular Bank (Bancredito) or at the border.

WEATHER

Because Costa Rica is located between nine to ten degrees north of the Equator, the climate is tropical year round. However, the country has many micro-climates depending on elevation, rainfall, topography, and by the geography of each particular region.

Costa Rica's seasons are defined by how much it rains during a particular period and not to the four seasons in the Northern Hemisphere.

The year can be split into two periods, the dry season and the rainy season. The "summer" or dry season goes from December to April, and "winter" or rainy season goes from May to November.
